Joan Hastings, a sophomore at St. John's in Santa Fe, withdrew from the college on September 22, 2005. Judith Adam, the assistant dean, gave her until October 1 to move off campus. Joan moved out of her room and into the on-campus apartment of Adam Linnell, her boyfriend. On October 6, Judith Adam ghostwrote a letter from Randall Harris, the head of security, declaring her persona non grata. Joan Hastings discovered her status when security searched Adam Linnell's apartment in the middle of the night and found her there. She was escorted off campus and found an apartment shortly thereafter. She applied to have her persona non grata status lifted on October 31. Judith Adam responded on November 14, telling her that as she was seen on campus, the college would not lift her persona non grata status. Judith Adam was referring to the time when Joan Hastings dropped Adam Linnell off at the bus stop near campus; Judith Adam considers the area in front of the bus stop to be on campus. Adam Linnell asked Judith Adam exactly where campus begins and ends; Judith Adam neglected to give a clear response. |
